Harvest Season

“The best lie someone can tell you is that you will have a bumper harvest when you didn’t plant any seed.” ― Israelmore Ayivor, 101 Keys To Everyday Passion

Welcome to the "Season of the Metal Element"

Welcome to the "Season of the Metal Element"

The organs correlating with this are the Lung and Large Intestine. It is a time of reflection, abundance (Harvest), dryness,

decisions with storing and discarding.

On an emotional or physical level, if this element is out of balance, a person may be dealing with such symptoms of grief, trouble letting go (of items or outdated ways of thinking, etc.), issues with authority, perfectionism, constipation or intestinal issues, asthma, lung dis-orders, sinus congestion, lower immunity.

It is especially helpful to eat root vegetables; focus on breathing slowly and deeply; and get plenty of evening relaxation, and practice gratitude.

Pumpkin time!!

Health Benefits of Pumpkin:

  • Very low-calorie vegetable

  • Rich in dietary fiber, anti-oxidants, minerals, vitamins (A, C, E). Many natural poly-phenolic flavonoid compounds such as α, ß-carotenes, cryptoxanthin, lutein, and zeaxanthin. Carotenes convert into vitamin-A inside the human body.

  • Source of the B-complex group of vitamins like folates, niacin, vitamin B-6 (pyridoxine), thiamin, and pantothenic acid.

Pumpkin seeds

are an excellent source of dietary fiber and mono-unsaturated fatty acids, which are good for heart health. The seeds are concentrated sources of protein, minerals, and health-benefiting vitamins. For instance, 100 g of pumpkin seeds provide 559 calories, 30 g of protein, 110% RDA of iron, 4987 mg of niacin (31% RDA), selenium (17% of RDA), zinc (71%), etc., but zero cholesterol. Further, the seeds are an excellent source of health promoting amino acid tryptophan, converted into GABA in the brain.

How to incorporate more pumpkin into your meals?

  • Stir a few heaping tablespoons, according to taste, into your morning oatmeal, pancake batter, yogurt or smoothie.

  • Use in place of a portion of the oil in muffin or bread recipes.

  • Include in your soup, stew, quinoa recipe, turkey or vegetarian chili, hummus or pasta sauce. The dish will have more nutrients without changing the taste significantly.
